Supporting individuals and teams working in the Sudan response

This Sudan Response Learning Hub has been created to support individuals and teams working in the Sudan response. This digital content has an advantage at a time when it is challenging to provide face-to-face training to teams and individuals in all response areas in Sudan. This is a live and ongoing situation and the content and information will be reviewed and updated.

By June 2023, more than 13.6 million children in Sudan had become in urgent need of humanitarian aid. An estimated 618,000 school-age children - including 458,000 internally displaced - have been displaced inside and outside Sudan due to the ongoing violence (source: UNICEF). Many families and children who are trapped in areas of fighting are struggling to access water, food and electricity.

On 15 April 2023, heavy fighting erupted in Khartoum, Sudan. Fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has continued in various locations, despite multiple ceasefire attempts. Children are at huge risk of being caught in the crossfire, exposing them to physical harm and immense psychological distress.

The state hosting the highest numbers of newly displaced people is West Darfur (which hosts 24 per cent of all displaced people from Khartoum). As of 4 June 2023, over 400,000 individuals have crossed borders into neighbouring countries.
