Education in emergencies means providing schooling in humanitarian emergencies including conflicts or wars, natural disasters, and health-related crises. For children in emergencies, education is about more than the right to learn.
Emergencies can disrupt a child’s education for years. This means children miss out on vital learning and are deprived of a safe place to be when they are in very traumatic situations.
Schools protect children from the physical dangers around them – including abuse, exploitation, and recruitment into armed groups. And they offer psychosocial support, giving children stability and structure to help them cope with the trauma they experience every day.
